Item Description
Product Description An ebonised mahogany, parcel gilt and imbuya burl veneered accent table, the square hand painted Chinoiserie landscape top above a gilded edge and cavetto moulded frieze, on square legs and unusual peg feet.
Collection Features Inspired by a 19th century Chinese original. The 5th Earl Spencer, also known as the Red Earl because of his magnificent red beard, travelled widely through Asia and collected work during his travels. While the association of the Spencers with collecting Chinoiserie items precedes these travels, the 5th Earl contributed a large part of this collection to the estate. A 20th century Chinoiserie low table in this manner is currently in the Library at Althorp.
