Item Description
Product Description A heart oak veneered and mahogany cricket table, the circular top on bobbin turned legs with teardrop feet.
Collection Features This unusual cricket table has a classic bobbin turned leg with a tapered foot. Rather than having a standard top, it features a strong molded apron upon which is veneered a slice through an oak tree underlining the history of the estate. The table references Althorp in both design and material as oak trees were an important part of the family's history and the aesthetic of the family estate. Inspired by a 19th century original at Althorp, this table references a design going back to Classical antiquity. The name 'Cricket Table' has unsubstantiated origins but the name most likely comes from the 'cracket' - a term for a three legged stool, or the Anglo-Saxon word Crycc - a term for a crutch or staff. There are musing that the three legged nature may allude to the three stumps of the wicket used in cricket. These tables and stools were widely used, not least because their three legged nature allowed them to be used on the uneven wooden, flagstone or hard earth floors without wobbling. This table is part of the Victory Oak collection within Althorp, made of reclaimed French Oak architectural beams.
